Dear Alums,
Happy New Year! After a successful year of small group dinners, we are pleased to announce the 1st event in the Wharton Small Group Dinner series for 2019: An “Ideas Dinner” hosted by Sanford Chee WG’02 on Jan 26th, 2019. Each participant will be asked to present a brief investment idea/theme OR share with the group an interest/activity/pursuit that they’ve invested time, money/effort in and have found to be truly rewarding. The idea behind the dinner is to have a fruitful exchange of ideas among a small group of alums. Note that we have purposefully kept the definition of “ideas” broad so as to appeal to a diverse set of alums, and not only those interested in the investment industry.

Please see detailed message from the host, Sanford, below:

Have you watched the Netflix series ‘Billions’? In Season 3 Episode 1 titled “Tie goes to the Runner” you’ll see the scene at the end of the episode where Taylor Mason presents Axe Capital’s playbook at a Hedge Fund ideas dinner.

Well we are all curious individuals, graduates from a top university, so we should have some interesting ideas on how to invest, OR ideas on interesting pursuits where we’ve invested our time, effort and money in and found highly fulfilling or richly rewarding on a personal level. Come to ideas dinner prepared to pitch your top investment idea for 2019 or an interest/pursuit that you’ve found personally rewarding. To lead off, I will start with my top stock pitch for 2019.

Format for Ideas Dinner
Pitch for 5 mins your top investment idea for 2019. Can be a public company stock pitch, a broader investment theme around an asset class or industry, OR a personal pursuit/interest as described above.

Rationale for investing, key considerations, risks/rewards etc
5-10 min of Q&A

Date: Sat Jan 26, 2019
Time: 7 pm to 10 pm
Location: Scotts Square Dining Room (8/F), 8 Scotts Road Singapore 228238

Menu: My co-host and sous chef Stella and I will cook and prepare: salad, pasta, pan-fried salmon/oven baked white fish fillet with Thai sauce and we may also cater roast duck from London Fat Duck or roast pork with crackling/Filippino Lechon.

BYOB your own wine.

Cost: There’s no free lunch but for this ideas dinner there is no charge to attend thanks to the generosity of the hosts but all participants are encouraged to bring a bottle of good wine/other beverages that they may like to share. Ideas and conversation flow better with good wines.
